模拟话题:居住空间的选择
2001-06-26 11:00:17

模拟话题:Would you prefer to live in cities or in the country?
This is an interesting topic for discussion. Different people may come up with different answers. Some people say they enjoy living in the country because one is much close to nature and can enjoy more peace and quiet. But living in the country also has disadvantages. For example, country areas lack services. There are fewer shops, or theatres, or cinemas and this often means there are fewer job opportunities.
On the other hand, cities are noisy, dirty, full of people rushing about, and often ugly.
But cities have a lot of practical advantages. They offer a choice of jobs, a choice of services, and a choice of entertainment.
Mary, if you could choose where to live, would you live in a village or in a city?
Of course, I would prefer to live in a city because there’s more going on. You see, being an actress, I need to go to the cinema and the theatre and there’s far more entertainment in the city than there is in the country. I also like it because people are open-minded. People don’t mind what you do in the city. And for the shopping as well, I mean, I love going to the village shop but the stores and shops in the city are much nicer. They have more and fancier goods.
Would you prefer to live in a city, too, Henry?
No. I think I’d prefer to live in a village because…well, I think the people are friendly and there’s a lot of fresh air. I think life generally is healthier in a village and I like being close to nature. And it’s very easy for my work as a writer to have peace and quiet.
Well, I think the country and the city each have advantages and disadvantages. People in the country live in more beautiful surroundings. They enjoy peace and quiet, and can do their work at their own pace. You see, no one is in a hurry. In general, people live in larger, more comfortable houses, and their neighbors are more friendly and helpful. But on the other hand, their life can be boring. I mean, they may be isolated. Well, the city has all the services the country lacks. City life is never dull. There’s always something to do. There are more chances of employment. But then it also has a lot of disadvantages. Cities are often ugly and polluted. Everyone is always in a hurry. Well, if I could choose where to live, It’s prefer to live in a small town which is within easy reach of a big city and it’s very close to the country. You see, I’d like to have the best of both worlds.
