One was exonerated and one was convicted. And now, after standing as co-defendants in a trial stemming from a 1999 New York shooting, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and his rap protégé Jamal "Shyne" Barrow have bitter words for each other.
Barrow, who is in jail until an April 16 sentencing hearing, lashed out at Combs in an interview in New York weekly The Village Voice.
"He proved that he was just there to save himself," the 21-year-old rapper said. "There are no boundaries to what he would do to exonerate himself. I had the Bible in front of me, and I was just praying that he wouldn't continue to lie."
Barrow also alleged, as the prosecution had argued, that Combs and his attorneys got witnesses to lie on the stand: "[Witness Charise Myers] lied for him. Fine. But don't let her testify against me. That's when I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't believe it. … I couldn't even look at him anymore."
Combs 'Saddened' By Shyne's Conviction
Combs said these claims were "absolutely ridiculous," and his lawyer Benjamin Brafman added, "None of the defense witnesses lied in any way about anything."
Combs released a statement through his publicist yesterday, saying, "I am deeply saddened about Shyne's conviction. I believe that Shyne had no intention of hurting anyone. My own victory is bittersweet because of what happened to Shyne and the victims. I want to make it clear … that I was found innocent of all charges because I am innocent. It is absolutely ridiculous for anyone to blame me for anyone else's actions."
Co-defendant and bodyguard Anthony "Wolf" Jones, who was also acquitted, also released a statement through Combs' publicist, saying, "Even though Shyne is like my little brother, I do not agree with what he has said. Throughout the case Puff was supportive of both of us and generously helped us with our legal bills. I was right by Puff's side all evening and everything he has said about what happened was completely true. I'm upset for Shyne, but it's crazy to think that Puff could be responsible for anyone else's actions."
Barrow, who released a self-titled debut album in September on Combs' Bad Boy Records label, is facing up to 25 years in prison for his convictions on assault, reckless endangerment, and gun possession charges; he was acquitted of the more serious charge of attempted murder.  推荐给好友  打印本页
